There’s something about sleeping on floors and eating shitty fast food that doesn’t seem so pathetic on the other side of the world. I can’t say I really miss trudging through New York’s dirty, slush filled streets to work at the restaurant that employs me back home.
We’ve spent quite a bit of time over the past two weeks packed into a 7-passenger minivan making our way up along Australia’s eastern coast with our friends in Iron Mind. Living off of kebabs, Macca’s and some of the most horrible mexican food I’ve ever tasted, we bumbled our way through the Aussie outback, our pockets weighed down by troves of coins more akin to pirate booty than any sort of national currency.
Our Australian friends introduced us to a whole host of new slang, got us sunburnt and revealed to us a culture fixated on giant roadside attractions. We celebrated Australia day with boomerang tour tattoos, kangaroos and a nightclub complete with snakes and an alligator petting zoo.
We just blew $500 in band money at the casino, a fitting end to a gloomy couple of days in Brisbane. Tomorrow morning we fly to Perth, the shark attack capital of Australia, to hang at the beach for a few days before we head to southeast Asia. Here are a few quick iphone flicks from the past two weeks to hold you over until we get back to the states and can get some film developed.
